If you look at Table Mountain from across the bay and use a bit of imagination you'll see that the peak to its right looks like a lion's head, connected by a body of land to a smaller conical peak, the lion's rump (known as Signal Hill). Signal Hill derived its name from its previous function as a semaphore post for communication with ships at sea.

There is only one company co-coordinating guided tours to Robben Island. They are based in the V&A Waterfront. Tours of the island depart from the Clock Tower at the V&A Waterfront Each tour lasts approximately 3.5 hours (including the crossings) and consists of a bus trip around the island and a guided tour of the prison. The guides are all ex-inmates and provide personal accounts of prison life.
